So says gerrys anyway...i thought the blood knot was grand...i usin the double uni knot now just 2 be careful

Well it sometimes happens to me where I'm tying a knot and when i give it a tug to make sure it is good it snaps very easily...i mean its snapping point is maybe only 3lb or so.

whats wrong with the blood knot
Tue Mar 06, 2007 10:34 pm
I find a double bllod knot good for joining line to tapered shock leader, the line gave out before the knot the last time. A single blood knot to hold on a hook is a disaster though it needs a long tag for slippage or make a clinch of it, only use a palomar nothing else.

i use the tucked blood knot and have no problems with it

I think it burns the line if you dont tie it perfectly mc. I have NEVER had a problem with a half blood knot for hooks and swivels though.

plenty of anglers use a blood knot. half blood. Steve Allmark and Alan Price use this knot. Paul kerry uses it too.
find lines to suit it. it ties better on some lines and terribly on others. used it for over 20 years and never had it fail. i just stopped using it because i found better knots- stronger and with less line burn.

uni-knot is good. grinner just takes too much time and i'd rate it less than the uni-knot myself.

i found the same a midget...with a tapered shock (tapered down to 16lb) at the join 1 tug and snap.... i tried the same with a 20lb line to 80 lb shock and it took more pressure but the line stress was evident...a double uni knot seems very strong but the knot is larger and may b harder to go thro the eyes....

Just as there are horses for courses there must be lines for knots...
Mark if you remember the day I showed you and Sean how to tie that no name not I use...it just would not tie in the Ultima F1 without slipping, I can tie s/s wire and 300lb mono with that knot and have done for years, but that day in my house it just would not work on the F1 and stay put.
Strange for Gerry's to give an instruction like that though

There might be some truth in that I have been using blood knot for years but I have found it very difficult to tie with Diawa infinity line..
