Killybegs blues

Great day yesterday out in the bay off Killybegs. 9am to 2pm I thought I saw a couple of fins out of the water but no takes then from 2pm till 4pm we had 4 shark to the boat and 2 dropped. Overall a lovely day and then in to a bay to get a couple of fish for dinner.

That was a great day out, haven't managed a go at them this year (yet!), if only it was a one man operation! Any bother getting enough mackerel?

Only problem was trying to get through walls of scad to get them. I stopped in Teelin harbour for 30 mins and got a bucket load. Some nice gurnard and a few flounder in the bays there too.

I find if you pinch the barb on the hooks and I have a bar about 2.5 ft long with a couple of bends at the end they can be released at the boat easily enough. I use a trace of only about 4 foot and wear a glove to hold it so I hold it over the side of the boat and a quick release. If they get off near the boat all the better.
