Last day of boat fishing for the season now and we are out with a bang! Although there was no mackerel to be found, we had plenty of fresh peelers for bait and our plan for the day was to target smooth hound over anchor. Of course we tried for an hour in our favorite mackerel spot but only managed to get 4 smallish pollock. Once we got to anchor and some baits out it took about 30 mins for the first bite, and it was a roughly 4lb smooth hound for Ken. Another 20 minutes or so went by before I got a bang on the rod and a nice run peeling the line off my reel, ended up wrestling an 89cm smooth hound onto the deck, probably in the 5-6lb range! Then we had nothing for a few hours, I eventually threw 2 peelers on one hook and that managed to attract the last fish of the day, an 80cm smooth hound and a great way to end to the season
