dribs and drabs of mackerel from small to excellent in Killala Bay in Mayo 27th May 2018.
Skipper says that they appear to enter the bay at first light and move out during the day... so tide is important.

Out yesterday from Aghada. Stopped at the usual haunts, the Jetty and the Turbot Bank, with nothing to show. Tried off Roches point again nothing to show.
Eventually ran into a big shoal of them about mile south of the Smiths. Twenty feet under the boat. Fished my favourite 8 hook rig http://swordsanglingcentre.com/Sea%20Fi ... 0Eye%20Rig filled the house twice  Could have filled the boat with them but threw most back as the were very big. Kept about a dozen large for bait and 10 small ones for the pan. All were filled with sand eel.

took the boat out of Howth for a pre season test, stopped at a couple of locations, about a dozen mack, some small haddock, and one cod.
We were only messing about fishing wise, as the object was testing the repairs etc.
Macks were only in 1's mainly but very good size. Went out at approx. 5pm to let the Howth bedlam die down and try and get a spot to park near the slipway.

Patchy small shoals off the cost of County Louth. While jigging at anchor on the Tope marks, expect to get maybe 20 or 30 per angler per tide as small shoals pass through. Mackerel fishing from the shore at Greenore and Clogherhead is very slow so far.
