Easing back into this sea angling thing after a long absence so hit for an eel mark two evenings running with calm humid weather. Ended up with 7/8 straps to 6lbs before the mother of them all dropped in. Prolonged run on the ratchet, a Conoflex Scorpion S bent into a C curve and some very muddy boots ended up in a new outright PB fish of 31lbs 8ozs. A few quick snaps and the fish was returned to a small round of applause (serious) from the few locals that had gathered during the 10 minute scrap. Fish of a lifetime for me but plenty bigger fish about.
Fishing at about 50 feet allowed me to groundbait with last years stock of frozen macks, was a frenzy of feeding the first evening after this but second day was slower. 6/0 pennels on running ledgers with 150lbs mono and due to short range was switching between free lined bait & 2oz weight when the tide ran a little.
All returned to fight another day
