Alaska 2002

Wed May 28, 2008 4:10 pm

Me, Alaska state schools wrestling champion 2002, and a 70lb Chinook or King Salmon. Not sure who was more intimidated, me or the fish!

My little boy Daniel on his first ever fishing trip earlier this year aged 4. First cast then "Can we catch another one and then go home?" Still beat me.

And a lovely sunset at Dingle Bay

This may look like the Floriday Keys but it certainly is not.

It's Clonakilty Bay on board the Lady Louise with Mark John Gannon in July 2006.
The water was unbelievably calm and clear.
That's a 20 lb boat rod with 40 lb mainline. 25 lb[OOOPS] trace with a 6-0
hook and mackeral flapper hoping to catch a nice ling.
At the other end is a Common Skate of 130 pounds.[ estimated].
After about 45 minutes of anxiety it appeared.

This may look like the Florida Keys but in fact it is Clonakilty Bay on board the Lady Louise with Mark John Gannon in July 2006.

The water was unblievably calm and clear.

At the other end is a Common Skate of 130 lbs. (estimated).
After about a 45 minute tussle it appeared beside the boat.

An eager fishing buddy (FORMER FRIEND) with gaff in one hand grabs hold of the trace.

I'm afraid we never got it on deck.
Good job there was'nt another photo taken in the next 2 minutes.

No fish in the photo, but my favourite fishing pic. Taken at the end of a fantastic day flyfishing for sea trout in the Erne Estuary, Ballyshannon. As we were coming back in I looked back and saw the sunset reflected on the still water and took a quick snap (with a disposable!). Every time I see it it reminds me of a great day's fishing. Now have it printed on 40x30in canvas and hung in my living room :D

That has to be one of best sunsets photos I have ever seen, the boats wake adds some foreground interest. A good story too...... well done
