Wrasse/Pollock setup

Postby eoinbyrne » Sun Jun 04, 2017 9:56 am

Hi Lads, I'm looking to have a go at fishing soft plastics around Dublin/Wicklow rock marks this summer. The rod/reel Im using now is a Shimano Vengeance 9' which casts 14-40g. I have it paired with a fairly standard Shimano Hyperloop 4000RB. Will this kit be suitable? And if so could someone with experience suggest a setup on the business end. Should I use braid? What weight jigheads and any tried and tested soft plastics?

Thanks for the help!

That setup looks fine for pollock and wrasse. Would definitely recommend using braid when fishing over snaggy ground that you typically find pollock and wrasse on. You'll benefit from the feedback a braid line provides and get snagged less. I'd recommend you get some soft plastics and fish them weedless. Check out Texas setup and only use enough weight to get the lure down to fish.
