HUGE subject lad.

I would say best thing to do is go into Cian in Absolute Fishing and have a chat with him. Other than that best advice i could giveis get yourself a budget rod and reel like these, good quality for the price. http://absolutefishing.ie/Shop/index.ph ... cts_id=260

After that get a couple of shallow diving lures in natural colours to start, everyone has their favorites. here are two of mine.

and a couple of soft plastic lures like these.

For marks, a good place to start is an estuary or look for kelp beds & gullies at low water and then fish them when they are covered by water. Whatever mark you choose, always tell someone where you are going , when you are coming back, and if at all possible go in pairs.

There is a load more info out there but this will hopefully be enough to get you started.

Good Luck.
Tom

I will say take time to consider what you need, not want. In short the below items will make up the bulk of equipment required:

Rod - 7-9 ft casting approx 10-35 g.
Reel - Balanced on rod, 2500-3500 size.
Lures - Soft / hard lures, a few of each will do provided none are too similar to each other.
Lines - Braided line approx 20lb b.s.
End tackle: Jig heads/hooks (consider weedless) and perhaps lure clips.

You probably have items such as unhooking tools and waders, wading staff etc. A little more below:

Regarding locations what are you looking for? Estuary's, tide rips, rocky headlands, bays? Have a look at such areas on tools such as google earth then get out there at low water bring a camera and take photos. Consider the ideal wind direction for that area.

Much of the success in bass fishing is the work you do in advance of the actual fishing. Use weather sites daily all the time thinking of how current or forecast weather patterns are or will affect the fishing. Some anglers keep a fishing log which can be a help. Hope that much helps a little for now.

I'm in same boat as you.

It might be worth spending the money on getting a guide to show you the ropes and watercraft. Especially if you have to travel to get to a fish.

BTW Great advice from Tom and gd above
