Anyone tried the new Penn Battle 4000 ?

Looks like it might be nice reel. Anyone tried it ? Cheers

Haven't tried one yet, but it is ordered and on the way hopefully very soon
getting great reviews it's the carry on from the sargosa which i have heard very good things about aswell, built on the same body with an extra bearing.
if it is anything like the penn 4500ss that i have the last 10 years or so i will be very happy, bomb proof reel

Not used one myself. Good to hear Penn getting their act together in the fixed spool stakes...

Iv been using the battle 2000 with a concept spin 8ft with the last 2 days and Im seriously impressed.Its a perfect light weight setup at a great price.For €80 you cant go wrong.Iv recently been using a Okuma Raw 2 4000 which is nearly twice the price and the Penn beats in all areas hands down

Not a lure reel, but I've been using the Penn Pursuit 8000 for the light line comps. It's bomb proof. I got it for €60 from Dan at Halfway. One of the best value reels I ever bought. If there's one in the 4000 range it would be superb for shore lure fisherman.

I have the pursuit 6000 ,it came recommened by Dan and he was dead right,its bomb proof,not the prettist reel but gets the job done and hasnt missed a beat over 2 seasons.The battle on the other hand is a hansome little reel .

I have a battle 2000 and have been using it for LRF, it seems well built and has a good pricepoint, I havent had anything bit to test it, maybe Coalfish to 2lb, but it feels well built and ergonomic... I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Cheers for the replies, I had a surfmaster 750 which disintegrated after a season. Replaced it with a surfblaster 8000 which so far is proving itself to be an infinitely better reel Might check out the pursuit now based on the reviews here, seems great value. But as mentioned above, the battle looks the business .......................

I was out last night with the Battle 3000 on the Concept 832. It was just to get a feel for it and thought it was very good and well balanced with the rod. Would of liked to caught something to test it out a bit

Talking to a bloke who was doing a bit of bait fishing and he had the Battle 6000 and he thought it was a great reel.

I had a Pursuit 5000 on a bass rod last year and thought it was a very good reel if a little big for the rod. As said not the prettiest of reels but will do the job and well built.

Nearly forgot this thread, i picked up my battle 4000 recently nice little reel seems to be very well built and it feels well balanced on the concept 832 it also feels very good on the Berkley SSGS 902 that i have,i just need to bring them for a spin now

Thats the exact rod i'd be pairing it with if I decide to go for it. I don't ever go below a 4000 size for spinning so its good to hear its not overweight on the Grauvell, cheers

It's a grand little reel. I would of gone for the 4000 but it's also getting shared with the 8ft Daiwa Powermesh, which I think I'll keep it on until I have the funds to get a reel for the Concept. Think I'll try to get out tomorrow and give it a trashing

I got my hands on a Battle 2000. What a compact package! I have it mated to a RockSweeper Nano and I gave both their first run out today.
I must say, a class reel, lovely feel. I reckon it will put up with great abuse!
I like small reels so the 2000 suits me. It would be small enough for LRF and strong enough to do the usual lure angling. You also get two proper alu spools supplied so it would be easy to change line size etc. I managed to christen the rod today too (bonus) and it is a fair wand! More as it goes on!

nice setup Jim, I am interested to hear your opinion of how would you rate the reel in comparison to the Surecatch Unity, overall or in terms of casting and ruggedness? Which reel do you prefer? I know, it's still early days

Update October 2013:

I've given the Battle 2000 some hammering all year! As a package with the Rocksweeper it is superb. I noticed a bit of stiffness creeping in these last few weeks. Nothing strange there. I popped the spool and polished the spindle. That did not cure things completely so I decided to clean and oil the internals.
The visible screws in the side plate are very tight and feel "soft" so care was needed. I removed the plastics bottom cover (service port?). There is a further screw here retaining the side plate. I could not move it and did not want to make shite of the screw head. I decided not to push it.
I pumped oil in through the holes under the bottom cover and worked the reel. It feels grand now. I am a bit concerned as to what will happen when time comes where I will have to remove the side plate.
I be using the reel over the next while. So we'll see how it goes.
