snapshot swivel or not?

Complete noob question here.

is there any reason why i shouldn't use an american snapshot swivel at the end of my leader to make changing lures easier?

I'll be using braid with no mono leader, just tie the snapshot onto the braid.

I have a feeling there is something wrong with this approach as it seems to nice, and easy, and too good to be true

Cheers in advance

John

They are a bit big. I've lost lures when they have opened. these for bass, mackerel and pollack, maybe size 2. 1 or size 0 for sea trout

I picked out the smallest ones i could find with around 15lb break strain. They should give before the braid.

I don't like those American Snaps - don't trust them not to give under pressure. I'd use the likes of Crane Interlocks instead, but that's out on the deep briney. Lately I've been using JB Swivelclips - never had a problem with them and they're small enough to reel directly back onto the spool through the eyes of the rod. Very handy that.

Last year I started trying Daiwa TwistBuster high Speed Double Rolling linkswivels - they're good, once you figure out that you're not actually supposed to open them to get the lure attached!

I find these a great all round clip and easy to use http://www.breakaway-tackle.co.uk/index ... uct_id=204

+1 for the JB clips only downside is not great for sp's.

Delande agrafe swivel no.29 you just twist the lure onto it and it can also fit through most rod eyes

Im with Rory here on the Illex Hyper 8 clips. Been using them the last couple of years and cant fault them one bit. They have changed the design of them now but I havent use them yet as I have a few packs of the old style left.
