I would like to chuck some spinners out into an estuary . Its a stream that fills up to be a wide river ,I've never seen anyone fishing there but would like to have a try .
How do I find out if I need a licence ? if I don't get a definitive answer here ?
Thanx .

I walk my dog further up the river and see trout , there might be bass in there ,I don't know . I did some googling and found this
http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/tr ... rmits.htmland it seems the season is closed .
I'll call the Cork IFI office tomorrow .

I have to spend a few idle hours a day in a place near the city

. North side of the harbour .

You need a license ONLY if you catch a trout or salmon, otherwise u might need a river fee.
Why to pay for the license, if you dont target "red fish" ?

the season for trout is closed and as for bass you can spin away but can only keep 2 in any 24hours and have to be over 40cm in lenght,,,bass season close on the 15th of may-15th of june

If you're after sea trout you'll need a license plus the season is closed until the new year.

I rang the local IFI office yesterday and they informed me all river fishing is closed for this year . I want to fish that stretch between Glanmire village and Dunkettle . Before I cast anything I need to contact the local fishing club and gardai . I'm all set up for bass sea fishing but would like to see what I could catch there with my spinning gear .

Why on earth would you need to contact the Gardai?
