Flurocarbon leader

Hi folks,
Just a quick question. I have a reel loaded with 20lb power pro braid and i want to attach a flurocarbon leader to it. What breaking strain fluro should i attach and what knot should i attach it with? One other thing: does fluro stretch as much as mono? Sorry if these are stupid questions; i havent used fluro before.

As a general rule use a BS a little lighter than your mainline - so an 18lbs bs would be fine - there are a lot of knots for joining the two materials, the J knot the improved allbright, the reverse allbright, each to his own I guess.

Its not essential to fish fluorocarbon as a leader, any reasonable mono of similar bs will do most of the time, particularly if fishing bass. Fluoro is more abrasion resistant has greater refractive index, less stretch and will sink but it is more expensive - expect to pay 10.00 for 30 metres for very good material. Is paying any more than this of a greater benefit? I dont think so guy.

After losing several pricey lures from the mono leader cracking off at the knot, I stopped using leaders altogether. No problems at all fishing the braid straight thru, despite expert opinion to the contrary.

Hi, i use 20lb braid -small swivel and Good(in my case Berkley big game ) mono 12lb , lenght from 500mm depending on the rod
But, there is a but knots must be 100% and (from my own expierence ) , change mono every session , it may look ok, but its cheaper to change how to watch lures flying away
thight lines !

Seaguar do a great fluorocarbon in 19lb. You can use a back to back uni knot to attach to braid but I just have a swivel always tied to my braid(palomar knot) and have several fluoro traces handy(with lure clips attached) for quick changes if I lose trace....

If your going to use a leader use a short one. Try to use as long a leader as you can, but still cast with the knot outside. It works , especially if faced with very clear water. The Albright knot is a favorite of many anglers, but is leaves the leader tag slightly exposed. This tag can hit the rod eyes when running through at speed during a cast. If this happens a few times you will loose your lure. They only knot I would be will to try for casting again would be a PR knot, but I don't know if I would have the patience to tie it up or if I would trust another knot hurtling through the guides again...

I use the first knot in the video a good while now for tying my flouro leaders (seaguar) to the braided mainline (power pro). Hasn't let me down as yet and glides through the guides with ease. Simple to tie as well.

I like fluoro leader for several reasons. Abrasion is a biggie, mainly its much less painful to grab a mono/flouro leader than thin braid that can cut like a knife.

Reverse Albright is nice and small also uni to uni. Palomar to tie on lure (I actually use a snap on the end to change lures quick. never had a problem with snap.)
