Recessionary Hard Plastics

In these recessionary times we’re all scrutinising our finances more than ever before but this shouldn’t necessarily automatically mean that our fishing should suffer as a result. It just means that our thinking is changing to a more grounded – can I get more for less – approach. If not we’ll just make sacrifices somewhere else but not at the expense of our quality of fishing.

Some examples of cutting down the cost without impacting on the quality of fishing that I have been exploring of late are pouring your own lead heads or going for the Hart range of Jellies @ rougly a fiver a pack instead of the X-Layers @ 3 times that price.

My question here is whether there is an effective but reasonably priced alternative in the hard plastic market

Let’s face it, we’re all tackle tarts to one degree or another and the flashy new range of hard plastics are almost impossible to ignore. But I for one cringe at the thought of losing 20 to 30 quid in a single cast

Is anyone using a brand of hard plastic that is up to the standard of your Lucky Craft, Megabass, Patchinko, etc. but that won’t be taken back by NAMA when you can’t make the repayments ???

five lures above all of which have caught hundreds of bass for many customers for less than the price of one 'modern' lure - maybe I'm old fashioned but....!

Bass angling is the marketing man's dream!
Some of the rods, reels and tackle are way overblown IMO. People are probably fed up with me saying it but my favourite rod and reel combo of the moment, for plugging and soft plastics, costs around €130 and maybe less... and I'm still catching!
Is it me or is there a "snobbery" appearing in bass fishing - you "must" have the fancy overpriced rod, expensive lures, even the clothes you wear. There is no doubt that some of the trendy lures catch fish but Jim has a good point, don't forget the lures that did the business before the trendy stuff came along. You can get a YoZuri Crystal minnow for around a tenner. There was a time when these were the trendy must-have lure!

Its a difficult one at times especially when I witness people feeling that expensive lures equal quality returns - there's nothing wrong with people purchasing what makes them feel happy - but too often I see an issue in bass fishing becoming apparent - when snobbery combined with 'expertise' and ego emerges as an 'Authority' then you know you gonna have a fun time.

Add a couple of schizophrenic forum identities and a bit of mutual commercial triangulation to the mix and off we go.......we have all seen it!

Its a strange one but its prevalent - life is short so is the season!

it pays to have a shop around heres a lure very similar to modern "must have" yet probably 1 third of the price and the quality/hooks are half decent aswell and if you look further into the sellers shop theres more goodies way cheaper than the real macoy

just thought id mention that i bought a few of these lures in various colours and recently had a 65cm 54cm and 52cm bass on them.not bad for lures that many bass guys say will not get u fish
