Best online shop for SPs, Lures, Plugs.

Tue Feb 08, 2011 3:19 pm

Hi Lads (and occasional lady :)). Anyone recommend a good site to start stocking up on some decent gear for the approaching season. Got loads of cheap stuff off eBay last year but this year gonna break the bank and get some decent gear. Xlayers, storm shads, Lucky Kraft etc... Any advice much appreciated.

Does Mr Fish in Jersey have an online shop?

I was in his physical shop a couple of times last year. Knowlegable bloke, good gear, informative on advice and good on prices. You could do worse if he has a web presence.

........In fact, I'm pretty sure he does have a web shop, coming to think of it.

It's gotta be Veals for me. They have a great selection and range of gear available from rods, reels, lures and plugs. All good quality gear at a reasonable price. I have ordered plugs and lures from them on several occasions in the past and I have been very happy with the service I received each time. Delivery is prompt and all goods arrived with me in perfect condition, never damaged.

Thanks K1. Im aware of Veals alright. They have some nice deals on the go. What I'm mainly looking for is Storm shads. Have they been discontinued or something? A friend gave me one last year and I liked it so wanna get some more.

On the Irish side of things:
The Dennett dealers have a good range available to them including tackle house etc: http://www.dennettoutdoor.com/
Henry stocks a great range of plastics http://www.henrystackleshop.com/
Dan Lynch stocks a wide range as well: http://www.tackledirectireland.com
I'm told (I have never been there) that Cian O'Halloran has a good selection: http://absolutefishingireland.blogspot.com/

There are probably others who are stocking up as we speak!

I would suggest that if you are considering ordering a good qty of items then email the shop first and do a deal rather than just ordering straight on line.

http://www.basslures.co.uk/ Very helpfull people, Decent stock.

Im a fan of buying where is the cheapest instead of this "support irish shops" crack but actually I find lately I dont bother ordering my lures/sps online as its not the cheapest. Good competitive prices locally now.

Try to keep some money within out shores and support your local shops! If it's lures and plastics your looking for get on to Cian in absolute. You won't find a better selection of lures and sp's in Ireland, all quality tackle and he will post stuff for you if you give him a bell. Have a browse online - get a list of what you want and see if he has it.he pretty much stocks tackle which he uses himself and will advise you what to go for If your unsure. Sound fella!

Henry's tackle the best around. Both Henry and Pat know all that there is to know about lure fishing. Prices are every bit as good at UK shops and the advice is excellent. There is no better shop in Ireland that has as good a stock of lures. Fishing megastore/glasgow angling and Veals are great but not for lures.Mr Fish has a good range but Henry has a better array and is at least as cheap. Support your local dealer especially if he can give you expert advice and is competitive.

I forgot to mention that Henry has a great stock of Hart soft plastics. The Absolut Worm is a great alternative to the Xlayer.

Monster tackle have just finished their January sale :( I got a few plugs off them, the Lucky Craft Flash Minnow was only €12  I pay €19-20 here. It only cost 1:50 shipping, I asked a well know tackle dealer in Dublin about this he told me that he will be stocking the Lucky Craft shortly but the lures will be €20.

Cheers. Ive gotten a few Lucky Craft Flash Minnows off eBay for about 13euro. 20 quid is mad for such a small lure. Im not long lure fishing so Im sure when ya find the lure thats works best for you, you will pay top dollar for it but for now im only experimenting.

Nice one Anto :D the L C Flash Minnow is a nice plug, you got a good deal there. I bet you wish you had have got a few now when they were at that price. I have been banned from buying anymore lures or plugs for a while  K2 says if I buy anymore more we are going to need a garage to put them all in! So I am afraid all I will be doing for a while is window shopping :(

Yes Basslures.co.uk offer a great service, they made an error processing an order for me and showered me with freebies by way of an apology! Monster Tackle are also very good, they don't have as much of the 'fancy' stuff but often have great prices on some of their stock, and if you're a Rapala fan they have a great selection. Veals are very good (especially for rods and reels and accessories) although they are so popular that when it comes to the more specialised Japanese bass lures they are often sold out as soon they arrive in stock. AGM Discounts are great and really cheap if you're not obsessed with only purchasing the top brands. Another site worth a look is Bassmasters UK http://www.bass-masters.co.uk/.

If you want to buy Irish Henry's Tackle in Dublin is great. I have also heard that Southside Angling in Dublin have more recently got into stocking Bass lures, I read somewhere that they get their stock via Mr. Fish in Jersey (or at least did initially). The problem with Southside is that they don't have an online store as of yet... I'm not sure if Cian's shop in Tramore is online yet either.
