A micro lure caught Seatrout

Sun Mar 14, 2010 9:19 am

Well

here is a couple of snaps of a targeted seatrout on a micro lure caught yesterday. he was 47cms and i reckon he was a little over 2lb. Notice the marks on the top of his head and he had a small cut on the other side which i forgot to photo in the rush to get him back into the water.

Are they net marks or seal marks?

Seatrout give a long and messy fight but they dont have the same bursts of power that a bass has. Great sport on a light rod designed to cast lures from 8 to 25 grammes using 10lb braid and 6lb flouro leader.

goes to show that if the sea was left alone by commercials and poachers there would be a lot of fish in the sea worthy of pursuit by us luremen and indeed baitmen.

Hi Trout Hunter

Its a Smith Blowshot Boron for tidewading. Its 250cms long and is rated for lure weights 8 to 25 grammes. Ideal for light lure and spin fishing. It has a strong first 2/3rds and a softish tip. Its great for seatrout as you dont get that many bump offs on the take while using braid with this rod.
This is a common problem with seatrout fishing at sea because the trout have very soft mouths while at sea which tend to harden up again when the seatrout return to fresh water.

These rods are not widely available in Europe. They can be found in mainly, France or japan.
They have a great range of rods specifically designed for fishing for bass and also for exotic lure fishing for GT's etc.

Hi James

It was a smith troutin' surger the 7.5gr one in orange. Casts extremly well for such a light lure due to its profile. It has a cool fluttering action when you do a spin stop. This is generally when the trout hit it. I got a selection of smith micros from Jim H and they are fantastic.

I can cast it about 45 yards depending on the wind etc. You do need to be a little careful using light braid tho coz you can get wind knots. i tend to feather the braid as it comes off the spool in windy conditions.

30 - 45 yds is plenty far to take trout considering they move into the shallows to hit sandeel when the current speed drops.....
