Problem rigging a jelly worm - any ideas ?

Last year I discovered fishing with jelly lures. I have had a lot of success with worms but I have experienced a continual problem. As soon as you hit any kind of obstacle, weed etc, the action of pulling the worm through the obstacle always pushes the head of the worm down the hook shank to the bend resulting in an entirely unnatural look.

It is really annoying and of course giving the fact that there is nearly always some kind of obstacle to pull the worm through I spend an awful lot of time after each retrieve re-setting the head of the worm.

Does anyone know how I can stop this happening ?

I should have made it clear that I am fishing it Texposed, not nose hooked, so that the head of the worm is located up at the eye of the hook.

try clamping a lead shot to the shank of the hook to stop it sliding down. hope this helps.

ok, tie some line to the eye of the hook and wrap it several times around the worm and bare part of the hook and back to the eye..

if you whip the hook shank where the lure head gos and add just one spot of superglue its not going any where...

Thanks again guys. I've done the whipping and the whipping with glue mullarky also. Yep it works but it's a pain when you want to change lure

I use bait elastic just whipped onto the shank of the hook, it seems to work for me and the fish dont seem to mind.

there are special hooks for this available , with the the top part of the shank in a spiral to hold the lure. p.m me your details and i'll get a pack up to you a.s.a.p

I'm not sure if its quite what you are after but you could try making a little 'hitchhiker' type clips out of some light wire or possibly even a paper clip might do the job. Its basically just a little kinda corkscrew clip thats is screwed into the soft plastic and the clipped onto the eye of the hook or jighead. That said you can get all sorts of hooks and jigheads that use various grips or screw type things to hold the lure in position.

Well, how amazing: yesterday I came up with something almost exactly like that having decided to really put my mind to it. I took the spring out of a Biro pen - the kind with the point that clicks in & out - cut it down to about 12mm and screwed it into the nose of a worm leaving about 4 coils protruding. Having done that I then took a hook with an offset shank and screwed the spring over the short off-set shank up to the eye and Presto !

The spring from a biro, now why didn't I think of that, thats a much better idea.
