Gentlemen, how are ye? This sidewater seems to be the haunt of serious bass hunters, so perhaps ye can advise me on the following scenario:
Went out today at low tide (midday) to my secret little rubble-strewn cove where I previously caught a 7lb bass, and have regularly seen others disporting themselves in the shallows. The wind was onshore about F4/5, the surface a bit ruffled, the sun bright, and the water - due to heavy rain run-off from surrounding boggy land - looking like somebody had tipped a tanker load of Guinness into it; a thin ruby brown is the nearest I can describe it. Should I have been:
A. Fishing surface plugs, poppers etc?
B: Fishing sub-surface plugs or lures (I caught the 7lb-er on the cheapest trashiest Flying-C thingy in my box)
C: Fishing near bottom with weedless rigged plastics? If so, what?
D: Not fishing at all? (This was the option I chose - the Guinness-stained water sparked a Pavlovian response....)
Fisrt prize for the corrrect answer is one week's bass fishing in North Mayo. Second prize is two week's bass fishing in North Mayo....
Seriously, did I make the right decision or is there a secret weapon?

Thanks both, I'll go and try a bit of freelining this week, which is fairly good on your forecast for July, Art. Never be as good as on the Cunnigar tho - I used to live up in Old Parish...

Yeah, seems to be bad news all right. Apart from discolouration, I suppose it probably raises acidity and maybe affects oxygen levels? Anyway, the runoff was less y'day and today, and the bass were back, but I still had no luck despite running the plug right across their backs...time for the .22
