Mail Order Lures

Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:52 pm

Hi Lads,

Could any of ye recommend some good websites that supply a decent range of good quality lures? I've only done the odd bit of lure fishing over the years, but I hope to do alot more this summer. I hate paying good money for crap lures in irish tackle shops, made of cheap plastic, poor hooks etc.

Cheers for any advice.

Patrick.

Now i'm not a plastics engineer or whatever, but i suspect a lot of lures are made from polycarbonate.
I have noticed a few lures which seem identical but have different makers names on them (and colour patterns)and i would think these were all made in china.
I often buy lures from ebay and change the hooks to vmc.
Some are good and others were Cr*p.
Then there are wooden types, but i dont use these...i do loose a lot during the year and you have to accept this if fishing over snaggy shallow ground, so cheap and effective works for me.
A good action is a plus, but then sometimes a slow and stop action works...and in fact metal spinners are deadly for bass also...
Here is a link ... but remember buyer beware.. i got some nice 5inch lures and the price range is huge!!!
Also the uk web sites have some good value at the moment too...

you could make some lures from lead and paint them your self
if you know any one in construction they could pick up some lead around a building site
you could save your self a lot of money
try a mould like in the link below
if you want more info on how to melt lead let me know and i will tell you how i do it

Sound lads. Thanks for the links.
I have tried making lead lures over the years, and even attempted making floating divers from wood, but my carpentry skills aren't the greatest, and they never fished right once in water. Good fun to try though.

I always manage to lose a tonne of gear when fishing, so I tend to stick with jelly worms rather than €20 rapala's!

Thanks again, I'll keep you posted on how I get on.
