ive seen one caught on a lure and have heard of it a few times - very rare though
dont really think you could go out targeting them on the lure to be honest

my son got a specimen wrasse on a silver toby lure out of the boat and I've heard similar stories from the shore. Think there was a similar discussion to this last year or earlier this year so you might do a search for it, but yes they do take lures sometimes.....

Wrasse can be caught on lures and indeed flies (to a lesser extent), vertical jigging with small soft lures and light jig heads, particularly in a black and white color will yield very good results. In fact a member of this forum had a very interesting afternoon about two years ago where he caught some 6 very good wrasse using this method.

I've taken them on size 14 salmon shrimp flies.
But tried this again this year. Even though I was taking wrasse non-stop from the same spot with rag, they weren't interested in the flies.
So it doesn't work all the time.
