With the winds dropping for a few days I decided to venture out on the coast, hitting the Bay around Dublin. Tempts were down in around 2 degrees dropping to -2. Rather than my usually 5am starts I took a lie on until 8am hoping things might warm a little before I hit the road (hoping was right lol)
I was a little unsure of the venue as the roads were icy as some of the slips were still froze over but I managed to find some parking and slide my way down the slip to the waters edge. The sun was shining at this stage and things were starting to feel a little warmer. With my new Stealth Kayak in getting some modifications I took the Trident 13 out for a spin.
Calm would be an understatement I have never seen the coast so calm in all my trips, I could see the ripples from the shoals of herring below, a beautiful day to be on the water. The herring were first in followed very shortly by the whiting all falling to the Shamrock Crazy Clown Rig
On the other rod I was using large baits made up of squid/crab or squid and mackerel, unfortunately it went untouched for the day
After filling up with a few herring for pike bait and drifting over 1km I headed towards a small rocky reef close by in the hope of the lunker of a cod, I also baiting up the Crazy Clown Rig with some peeler. Dropped anchor and had some lunch
As per usually as if the fish knew I was unpacking lunch the rod took a knock and this wee lad appeared, he wasn't the clunker of cod I was hoping for but he was it for the day with regards to the cod
After a little over 4 hours on the water the sun was already starting to set, and the chill was setting in. I finished off the year with this lad
What a day to finish up my year of 2014, the sun was shining, the wind was calm as could be and I hit a few fish. I was grinning ear to ear. After I loaded up the car to go home I poured a hot drink and took a couple of minutes to reflect back over the year I have had.
