Slow but improving

With last week producing just one fish I was very keen to get back on the water and see have the summer species returned. The venue was again Dublin Bay with a mix of clean and rough ground. The bait was rag, crab and mackerel. It was an early start on Sunday morning picking Joe up at 6am (who was shore fishing) and meeting Dave at the the launch for 6.30. One the way out Dave had text to say the breeze was bad but luckily enough had settled slightly by the time we got geared up and launched.
We first headed out to a rough ground mark not far from the launch where Dave tied off to a pot in his brand new kayak and I dropped anchor not far from him. Rods were baited and dropped down. I wasn't long waiting for a bite when the best fish of the day came knocking, a lovely scrap on the 6ft rovex kayak rod.
Not huge by any means but I wasn't complaining, a quick shout to the lads on the radio and things were looking good or so we thought. That was the only bite for the next while. I then changed over to smaller hooks in the hope of bagging a few smaller species. Sure enough the poor cod were about.
After awhile the toes were beginning to freeze so I decided to test out my new turbo fins on the hobie, well by god I was impressed. The resistance of the push is a little stronger but you gain a lot more in speed and distance for it. I could easily manage maybe 3 knots without much effort.
On I peddled towards the cleaner ground into 50-60ft of water. The wind was easing off and the swell had relaxed so it was very comfortable. I had left the anchor back at the first mark so I was drifting over the sand. There was an endless supply of Whiting along with a couple of Dabs for good measure,
After the Whiting had savaged most of the rag I headed back to the rough ground in the hope of a few more Codling but it wasn't to be. The local seals were also out in force, bad enough to compete with the weather but then these guys too

plenty of wrasse about anto,on top of thursdays ones had another dozen

Couldnt find them on Sunday John, did you hit them at the usual spot? Great to hear your catching them although youll be soon bored

getting them at one of my usual spots anto, but not the area where we met up few weeks back, but there on the way

Good to hear John, I'll be keeping a close eye. Also want to pick your brain on a mark I'll be on to you shortly
