The fish are back

Sat May 04, 2013 7:59 pm

Kayak(s): Hobie

Duration:6.30-8.30

Tide: High

Weather:Windy

Bait: Rag, squid and peeler

Rigs: 1up 1down

Results: 6 pollock and 1 codling

Report:With the weather being so unpredictable lately the fishing for me has being slow if any at all. Windguru was giving light breezes for early Saturday and high tide was 7ish so deciding to venture out of bed at 5am  I was launching for 6.30. A quick call to the father just as I launched to tell him how glorius the morning was and to follow me out little did I know I wouldnt be too long :x . I decided to hit a mark witch I haven't fished in probably 1-2years. As I first got to the mark I seen a lobster pot near where I wanted to be but produced nothing. I then decided on a few drifts which produced two pollock first time. Problem was the water was running fast and by the time I had the fish unhooked and photographed I was pushed out and what took 2 mins drifting(with a drogue) took near 10 minutes to get back but sure for 2 fish it was worth it  Again on the second, third and fourth drift it produced everytime. Pollock and cod were hitting the rag, the peeler and squid were coming back untouched :?: By now the wind had picked up, I wasnt overly worried about the chop as I had the side kicks on but it was a fook to make ground heading straight into the wind and tide. Busy little session for the short time. Mike if you read this I got to christen the new rod and reel aswell(thank you again 8) ), that was my first time to use a lefty multiplier- felt a little odd but not bad     . Looking forward to the next few months, Heres a short video

Nice one Anthony looks like you were heading in when I was heading out. :D wise decision that wind was force 4 to 5 all day with higher gusts.
I searched for coalies all day but nothing doing there. :(
I caught about a dozen pollock all about 34 cms and another few smaller ones and 1 lone pin whiting. :D

Nice to see a few fish about all the same
