So Light and Simple. Bass without the trauma.

Recently I got all call from a guy who fishes in the waterford area. he was looking to try for Ray, around Youghal Bay, and asked if I had any marks from the shore. Well it so happens that last year when fishing a reef some 6 miles out of Youghal, a nasty little skwall started to pick up and i decided that comfort would be the order of the day and as we had enough edibles in the box to justify our day. we headed to the harbour, and anchored below the town where i had noticed a tempting bank on the sonar. This produced several Ray and flatties without to much grief from crabs. This bank and hole was easily within his casting range so i told him what I knew and asked if he any spot that he could recommend for me to have a bash with my new toy, a perception kayak.
So last Sunday, 3 kayaks left Fermoy and within 40 minuets we were stood on the shore viewing our next challenge. And I have to say the it was a tough one. You see, I was told that the only tackle to bring with me, were, rod, reel, bubble float, swivel clips, hooks tied to a yard of mono, a fork and a landing net. Ohh, all my favourite plugs and jellies left behind in the car !
The plan was to wait until near low water, paddle out to one of the exposed sand banks and dig the sand-eel bait. This went extremely well, which surprised me, as I had never done this before.
Then with our eels divided up we slipped back into the water and the fun began. after just 5 minuets I was into a fish, not a monster but a joy to connect when you are not sure if you are getting it right.
The rig was so simple, A swivel clip onto the braid mainline. a small clear bubble float clipped on to it and the mono trace of 12ld clipped in the same way. Simple. We fished close to the bank where we had found the eels and where the bass were waiting for them.
Thats the thing about fishing the Yaks, being minimal with your tackle and its great.
