Donegal Bay

Kayak(s): Islander Strike x2

Duration: all daylight hours

Tide: Ebb and Flood

Weather: Absolutely mental, from force two to six

Bait: Mackerel and Ragworm

Rigs: Three ups mainly

Results: 13 species. Tub Gurnard, Pollock, Coalfish, Ling, Pouting, Poor Cod, Conger, Dogfish, Ballan, Corkwing, Goldsinny and Cuckoo Wrasse, Triggerfish, (plus Squid and Mackerel)

Report:
With the weather all over the place and not what Met Eireann was predicting, myself and Sean Ivory headed off from Johns Point to fish for Ling. As per usual we tied off the crab floats and fished a few of the reefy spots off towards the lighthouse. Mackerel were in short supply but we managed enough to get plenty of baits down on the ground.
The fishing was hectic at all times and also at all stages of the tide which is unusual for Johns Point and this time of year. Despite the weather being poxy with big swells and mental gusts we carried on until hunger or numbness took hold.
The highlight for me was three Triggers and all the Ballans which were caught on the Mickeyfish rigs tipped with mackerel. Sean had Ling to 10lb and Conger to 15lb. Getting 4 wrasse species was also a bonus. Not much else to report except the place fished its socks off in the crappy weather.
