what rod would i want for bottom fishing

No need for specialist rods for kayak fishing. With a long rod can prove very difficult to sort out problems when sitting down in a yak.
5ft6 rod would be fine.Make sure you tie everything down.I have never accidentally fallen out of my kayak, but I have knocked some rods overboard accidentally.

Its quite important that you have a rod that is long enough to clear the bow of your yak,
Even the smallest of fish can dart around either side of your yak and you dont want line wrapped around your yak when trying to land a fish.

Yes, but a 5ft6 rod will clear the bow quite easily. Believe me my 3ft6 rod can do it.
Don't believe everything you read.

I didnt just read it
A 3ft 6 rod wont always be ideal for all people as some people dont like the idea of reaching forward trying to clear the bow when trying to land a lively bass or hound etc................

I have an RTM Mambo and went out on my maiden voyage the other day.. Was advised to get a handline - pure disaster! Arm is knackered ever since. Tried trolling feathers behind the yak as well. Caught nothing! Reckon I wasn't out far enouigh as the water was low. I'm a coward when it comes to water so didn't go too close to the rocks in case I ended us getting smashed onto them by a freak wave
Going to get a 4ft boat road and fix a rod holder to the yak. And going to be a bit braver the next time as well.

Have a look at
www.marinewebstoreireland.com, they have a very small 2'7" Kayak fishing rod with reel for around €40. Might be on the small side, but it wont get in the way to much.
