Where can I get casting lessons

Postby Anonymous » Tue May 11, 2004 4:33 pm

Does anybody know where I could get casting lessons. I have been beach fishing mainly for over ten years but I certainly cant get anywhere near 100 yards. This is very annoying as it means I am fishing at a complete disadvantage and is something I would love coaching on. If anyone knows where I could go i would be very grateful.

Chris are you in the Dublin area? if so i could help you out. i am not a qualified casting instructor but could definately get you started on the road to greater distances. i can certainly help you send a lead over 100yards, provided your tackle is up to it. on a good day i can send a baited trace as far as my rod can handle, 150+. let me know what your set up is. i am ridiculously busy up until June 11th. and would prefer to spend my free time fishing, not casting! any time after that is fine.

Hello There m.b3. Yeah I am in the dublin area, I live in Glasnevin and I have my own transport so I could arange to meet up anywhere really. Will be very busy myself over the next couple of weeks cause Im starting a new job. Just let me know whatever date suits you and I will organise my time around that. In the process of getting a new Rod which I hope to have in the next week. Im presently using a 2 pce dragon 12 Foot Channell beachcaster with a Shimano Aerlex GT 8000 FS with 20 lbs main line.

your probably only around the corner from me! like i said Chris, anytime after the 11th. June is fine. i will have plenty of free time then so you can suit yourself. just give us a shout. oh yeah, loose the 20lb. line! if you have 2 spools fill one with 15lb. line and keep the 20 on the other. 15lb. line is better for casting.

Hi Mark,

You can set up a school! I believe I was first in line though??

Been busy changing the gearbox on my old MG, doesn't leave much time for fishing!

This thread shows the demand for casting lessons!

Anyone up for teaching me (& maybe H Rocks) up in NW?

yes! we could have a 'Forum-Fish-Off'! it's very hard to go out for a few hours casting and not slip a few sneaky ragworm into the bag, you know, just in case. i haven't forgotten about you Ian.

Without wanting to seem cheeky.. could I tag along too, from Donaghmede and not too much experience. I'd love to see how it's done right.

Postby dtmcc » Tue May 18, 2004 8:49 pm

where when, what !!!!!! bait should one bring.

got plenty of peelers, ahh no I ain't!!
got plenty of dead shore crab, this time they did die, far too much heat and some bugger turned of me pump.

have been told how to produce peelers on demand.

as I've got a dickie arm, can't cast to save my life, what about it

I'm really enjoying this thread and was wondering when Mark was going to call a halt on the numbers. I had visions of hordes of people descending on a beach somewhere, a bit like the Heineken ad.

Seeing as this event was organised on the site forum can I suggest that someone brings a camera and sends some pix to Kieran for publication. Maybe a section of the site should be devoted to events  .
Hard work never killed anybody, but why take a chance?

casting with a dickie arm

Postby dtmcc » Wed May 19, 2004 11:24 pm

Hi all,,,,,,,,,,,,

Newcastle [NI] or S of Dublin or the one in England, I think where ever we meet........

It should be a beach,
.................
................
..............
...........
........
.....
..
that would a very important thing to remember, one with fish would be nice.

As for me dickie arm "it's bloody well sore and I can't cast with it" got it putting out traps for peelers, so far one little peeler....... what anglers do for the enjoyment of the sport.

Should I stay, or should I go now,,,,,,,,,, if you know the words then sing along

I'm gone
