Brakes for SL20SH & SL30SH

Hi All,

I've got 2 Slosh reels (a 20 and a 30) for about a year or 2 now and I've always had problems casting with them. If I don't keep my thumb down on the spool for the entire cast I'm guaranteed a birds nest and this obviously makes for a small cast. I'm not whacking the bait out and can easily get 100 yards with a Penn 8000 fixed spool so I don't think it's casting style and more the reels.

Doing some research it looks like I need to make sure the red brakes (2) are installed into each real. I bought both new and when opened only found 1 white brake in each and there are no spares or red brakes in the boxes. I've heard I can get around this by using a small amount of the insert of a standard bic biro, has anyone every done this? Does it work? Do they last or need to be replaced often?

Thanks and apologies for the simplistic question.

Alastair

it dosnt mater what colour the breaks are once there's breaks in the reel it sounds like your bearings need oil try get some red rocket fuel from veals it will slow your spool down dry bearings run faster than when they are oiled

make sure its the red stuff as the yellow is for smaller faster reels like 6500 size.
on the slosh under the handle there is a nut turn it until the spool barely moves side to side i mean barely and your reel should run fine

Just another consideration is the line you're using, don't go any lower than .35mm with .38 being ideal.
