Sunday Down Under - In the rain

Postby JPS » Sun Jul 10, 2011 2:01 pm

Well Graham, Dennis and I were the only ones who decided to take the gamble and headed out for a cast even though the forecast was for freezing cold, rain and wind. We had hoped that we would get two out of three being the cold and wind and crossed our fingers about the rain.

Well as luck would have it we did get two out of the three , not the ones we wanted but two none the leass with cold and rain :rain: being our companions on the day :(

We were lucky that the field was relatively dry and we were able to get the vehicles on , but Dennis did have a few anxiuos moments with his wheels spinning out on the wet grass and soft mud. Still we got on and off Ok and then had an enjoyable drink at the local on the way home were we discussed what we were doing right and wrong.

As we had planned this to be a light lead day we stuck with that even though the conditions screamed for the heavier leads to cut through the wet and variable breeze that we had.

I was casting three outfits with the main focus being my 12' TTLD SM matched with two of my fixed spool reels in the Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500 and the Shimano Albrid both running mono. It was pleasing to get the best distance on the Albrid and throwing of all things the little 50 gram lead. The reason for this I feel is that I am far more comfortable with the little weights and my spin outfits. With the heavier leads I still love my multipliers .

Best distance for Gra was in the 170+ meter range , Dennis was trying to get back into the swing of things after his injury's and was in the 100+ range I think.

Here is some of the video footage that came from the later part of the session and as you can see the conditions were far from pleasant.

Still a great day out and interesting to see the rods performing with the fixed spool. :D

Roll on the next round :D   hopefully we don't have to wear so much wet weather :rain: and thermals
