New Casting Club-Down Casting Association

Postby StevieR » Sat May 28, 2011 2:58 pm

Just like to announce the formation of a new casting club. Down Casting Association based not far from Newtownards, Northern Ireland in Ballywalter.
About 40mins drive from Belfast.
Our 1st date will be Sunday 12th June 2011 kicking off at 9.30am.
Subsequent dates will be published and will generally be 1 sunday around the middle of the month.
The club has full insurance, and a 240 metre court, and welcomes tournament casters and anglers wanting a go to see how far they are casting, or wishing to improve their casting.
Casters are welcome to cast the main leads 100g, 125g, 150g, and 175g. A must is the use of high visibility main line and shock leader conforming to the generally accepted line diameters.
Main line minimum 0.25mm for 100g, 0.28mm for 125g, 0.31mm for 150g and 0.35mm for 175g, with shock leader mimimum 0.65mm for 100g and 125g, and 0.75mm for 150g and 175g.
Directions to the field will be given nearer to the time. Feel free to PM for more info.
There will be membership available for those wishing to join, and also a reasonably priced fee for daycasters, basically to cover their insurance.

Just a week to go now til 1st DCA meet. There are possibly a few fields available for us to use depending on wind direction. Bit early to say yet, but hope to meet here at Point 'B'.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&sourc ... 8&t=h&z=15

Hopefully we will be up and running by 9.30am. We will be able to bring our cars into the field by the gate which is just beside the point marked on the map. Depending on the grass length we may or may not be able to bring our cars down to the oche where we will be casting from. I have to confirm this with farmer still, so bring waterproofs, sunscreen etc.
If anyone wants to come along feel free.

Got the ok from farmer to go ahead sunday :) Drove past today and the grass hasn't grown that much to be honest and field not waterlogged.
Decent wind forecast for the weekend too.
Plenty of club records to be set everybody on all leads! lol

So just to let everybody know, that club membership can be paid for on Sunday. Fees will be 30 quid for a full years membership which includes a 10 quid joining fee, so will be 20 quid each year after that for annual membership. Day caster fees will be a fiver a day per caster.
Just a reminder to anyone attending, HI-VIZ line and shockleaders only and no tapered shockleaders to be used. Links to be used between leader and leads. Safety is paramount.
All crack-offs to be looked for after the round in which it happens, each caster is responsible for their own crack offs. Any that are not found will be recorded and we will do a sweep for any that are outstanding after the last round.
Any cast to be recorded after the round in which it is done. If you have a cast that needs recorded then stay with your lead and we will measure it before it is pulled from the ground. If you have a cast which you think is bigger or even similiar then we will measure it, if it obviously shorter then simply pull it. This is the quickest way to measure and also reduces the risk of any errors creeping into the results.
Just some guidelines for Sunday, but the main idea is to have FUN and cast as far as possible, court and club, (provincial and national too), records are all up for grabs, so lets start BIG.
The forecast is changing everytime I look at it, so lets hope it is in our favour for some biggies. Nobody has cast at the new venue yet so it will be interesting to see how it reacts to different conditions. See you Sunday!

Stevie, Tell Bobby to go to the Pit Stop in Bangor, or there is a wee cafe in Millisle that does a good fry but I can't remember the name of it.

Since the forecast the last few days is indicating some kind of easterly wind we may have to use the 2nd field which is better suited. Still play it by ear and meet at the same place described in 'directions' around 9ish. We can then decide which field we will be using. The other field is on a different road.

Hi stevie could you explain what you mean by provincial and national records?

just in from the hospital, the wee lass took a mild asthma attack, she is ok and if she is fine tomorrow i should be there on Sunday.
