brake blocks ?

Postby roger de dodger » Tue Jun 29, 2010 9:42 pm

in what part of the cast do they slow down the reel? i,m starting to use the pendulum cast and am using a sports mag ,i,m putting the mags halfway when casting and have no problems with over runs if i take out the blocks what way will it affect the reel ?i feel that the blocks are slowing the reel at the start of the cast too much and robbing me of distance, would no blocks and a bit more mag get me more distance?i think i,ve added 30 or 40 extra yards already judging by the level of line left on my reel but want more  the zippy might be getting me a yard or two extra aswell  cant wait to fxxh with it now :D

I would tend to agree with the lads Roger. I fish with a sports mag myself and removed the blocks straight away. Keep them in a little tool box incase you change your mind on a crappy evening. With the sports mag you can go to 4 straight away with a smooth cast, but there is a lot of movement away from the spol from 4 down to 0, so be careful here. With a little practice you can let rip with the reel set at 4 then move to 0 during the cast to squeeze those extra few yards.
