Can you use braid?
Do you have to use a shock leader?
What weights do the lines have to be?

Lines for fixed spool casting is the same as multipliers, here are the rules for tournament casting regarding main lines, leaders and weights.

6a. RUNNING LINE - To be minimum of 0.35mm for 175g & 200g, 0.31mm for 150gr and 0.28mm for 125g. 50g, 75g & 100g use 0.25mm minimum.

6b. CASTING LEADER - To be high visibility/fluorescent and minimum 0.75mm for 150g, 175g & 200g and minimum 0.65mm for 50g, 75g, 100g & 125g, with at least 8 complete turns on the reel when ready to cast. 75gr and 50gr also use 0.65mm minimum as does 18g Plug, 0.18 minimum for the 7.5g Plug

7. CASTING WEIGHTS - Only weights provided for inspection prior to casting are acceptable. To be fixed to leader via a split oval for 50g, 75g, 100g,125g, 150g, 175g & 200g. Plugs ( 7.5g & 18g ) must be tied direct to the leader. A cast will be declared void unless these conditions are adhered to.

Hope this helps

Spot on Lee...... If I remember correctly though I think it might be 0.35 leader for 18g. I think this is a CIPS rule...... I might be way off though. I'll double check in the morning.

Hi Lee, in relation to the leads, I notice most of the weights have been coloured I suppose to make identifaction easier?

How do you manage to keep the paint on the leads? I've tried spraying mine before and the paint just runs off them and makes 1 hell of a mess! Do you use an undercoat before the colour?

Cheers

The idea of colouring them is so people cant turn up and use there own as they might be polished excessifly or otherwise tampered with, if everyone uses the same leads provided then no one is at an advantage over another. Colours are not announced pre comp so no-one knows before hand that way the organisers are gerrenteed everyone is using the same, its up to the individual club to decide colours. I have tried colouring mine (2 coats of flouresent spray paint) for practice just so i can pick it out clearer if i video it.

Braid is not allowed in ANY comps, it has to be mono of a round consistancy (ie) the likes of stren being oval is not allowed.

Kev- i think your right, i can remember casting 18g with Marty up at Carlingford and he was using 15lb as a shock.

Sorry gents, that was my mistake, need to update the clubs rules page apparently

Marty was indeed using 0.35mm leader for casting the plugs and they myst be tied directly to the leader, split rings or lead links are not permitted when casting plugs.

The leads for club competitions are just given several coats of flourescent paing and allowed time to fully dry, it obviously sticks better to a freshly made lead before oxidation begins.
