how to cast

Fri Dec 14, 2007 11:04 pm

im the first to admit i cant cast worth a dime, and most of the time i don't have to, but some days when fishing those dog, ray, huss venues on a balmy summers day distance comes into its own. at the moment im trying to perfect the pendulum. without the help of a video camera i understand it will be hard to help with my technique, il try and give you a brakedown of my usual stance. usualy my mags are on full and the end caps are a half a turn oppened. my arms are about 2 and a half foot apart and my feet are about 2 foot apart pointing at a right angle to the sea, with the reel set low, i try to keep my arms straight, and the lead drop is about 8ft. i keep the cast pretty slowish instead of hoofing it out and recking my thumb. i have know idea how far it goes most of the time as ive never been to a driving range , so i havent a good idea of how far 50 yards actually is  sometimes i feel it goes pretty far and sometimes its disaterours  please help.

Eric,
Most camera phones have video capability, why not get a mate to shoot you casting and post that to the net. It would be easier than you trying to describe it and much more detailed.

Hi Eric,

Your best option would be to get in touch with the guys at Sportscast Ireland via Paddyc on this site.

Posting videos etc of yourself casting can be a bit of a help but there is no substitute for having someone that truly knows what they are talking about keeping you right.

Perhaps not the response you were hoping for but I can honestly say that it is the best and fastest way to learn.

SCI are the closest club to you, I am not sure when their next meet is or when they are accepting new members/daycasters but hopefully Paddy or one of the other club members will point you in the right direction.

Possibly not. When I did a pendulum cast it turns out it wasn't actually a pendulum cast at all!

But I can say a good idea would be to join a casting club.

I am an OTG caster when going fishing and I developed my own cast with it and this says:

When casting the best way of performing the cast is the one that suites you the most.

I'm not one to give advice on casting but one thing I would say Conor would be take care when trying something like this because if you get it wrong it can turn out very dangerous.

And thats from experience
