when i pendulum cast i always have the same problem which leads to reduced distance. the spool always runs away from my thumb before i wanna let go. if i hold on to tight to the spool, it always results in cuts form the leader knot on my thumb! any ideas to fix this problem :?:

move your leader knot to one side, save ur thumb man :) ... if you need to ,get a better grip round the blank, have your thumb that bit higher up on the spool to get a better grip...

what reel are you using? try getting a rubber "thumby" which is usualyy bike inner tube. that helped me alot. i used to also have problems but that was because i had small hands.

As Alex said a thumby will help grip the spool better.

Cut off a finger from a heavy duty washing up glove and ur sorted.

The type of reel and the position of the reel on the rod all make a difference. A lot of the fast retrieve reel are bulkey on the right hand side and make it difficult to get a proper grip. These reels are best used down the butt using your left thumb to control the spool

i use an abu sports mag or the green mag elite, if that helps. thanks for the advice.

some reel seats are bulky a set of coasters may improve your gripp as your fingers dont slide on the blank you will find it easier to apply more pressure with your thumb , people with small hands should use a low diameter butt if they are really having problems !

i use to have the same problem when gripping the spool in wet conditions i used to use cut a piece of the inner tube out of a bicycle Tyre idd cut a piece about 1 inich by 10 inches and clamp 1 end under the bottom coaster and put the other end over the spool of the reel and cut off the exess it done the job for me or if u dont use coasters u could just tape it to the rod
or u could cut the fingers off rubber glove they work just as good
hope this helps

ive not tried the lenght of rubber under the coaster yet, i got some to try off marty in wales last weekend and will give it a whirl, i normally use inner tube from bicycle and its ok, sometimes it flies off just as the cast powers away..
