Connaught Open Gold Medal Boat and Inter Club Competition 2011
On Sunday 1st May 2011 Mullaghmore SAC held the Connaught Open Gold Medal Competition in conjunction with the annual Inter Club Competition for the Kiwi Girl Cup.
17 Anglers from 4 Clubs and 2 Boats participated on a sunny but windy day. With a choppy sea and a fast drift it proofed to be a hard days fishing. A total catch of 109 fish consisting of Pollock, Ballan and Cuchoo Wrasse, Coalfish and Cod was recorded in a close fought contest. With only 1 point dividing the top three scores the Gold Medal went with 119 points to Hugh John Patton ( MSAC ) with Peter Coyne ( Killala SAC ) and Boris Siegel ( MSAC ) joined second on 118 points. Fourth place with 108 points went to John Munnelly ( Killala SAC ).
The annual Season opening Inter Club Competition between Bundoran SAC and Mullaghmore SAC on Good Friday was postponed and held on Sunday 1st May. For the first time the Kiwi Girl Cup was won by team Mullaghmore with a Score of 410 to 205 for team Bundoran and presented to Hugh John Patton. A rod and reel for best local angler ( except Gold Medal Winner ) was presented to Boris Siegel by Sean Carty from Carty’s Land and Sea Sports in Bundoran.
