Is it right that this comp is on sat 28th at 11am?
I know there is a recession but some people still have jobs and its short notice to get a day off work had booked a couple of hours off if I needed them for an evening time comp but all day I dont think so.
I know at least 4 or 5 guys who fish these all the time wont be able to make it,shame because numbers are dropping all the time.

Hi
All the Munster closed shores + the Munster Open shore next Saturday 21st of nov were schduled for saturdays as was the Jimmy Smith tide was picked for that day and it was put in for that day 12 months ago.
Wed Nov 18, 2009 1:34 am
My point is answered all other munsters on a 4pm or later also time of jimmy smith known months in advance and the date may of been known a year in advance but the time only came out this week at least to most people.ah not to worry at least we will have the full run of the day.

why weeks later is there not a full list of results out after the last leg?

Weldone Brian Mansfield, who else made the team?
Mon Nov 30, 2009 11:01 pm
Well Done Brian.
I think team is Chris Nelms,James Kinirey,Alan Mull and Rob Power, not sure missed last leg because of work but sounds like I was lucky, only 29 fished last leg, I wonder, did the time have much to do with it been poorly supported.

Great team there that will take some beating!! Weldone to all who made it.

It is usally only the anglers that have a chance of making the team and the over all winner that fish the last leg of the munster closed shore so normally the numbers would be down, the anglers who fished had no proplem with the time.
The first leg of the Munster closed shore is on the 16th of January in woodstown and fishing will be from 3pm - 7pm more details will follow.

Well done the Abbeyside lads Brian, Alan and Robert. and the others that made the team.
As for the low turn out.
THe format could be looked at and extended to something like the leinster league.
If it was say a munster league with 7 legs with the best 5 to count and give prizes down to 10th or 15th at the end of the year.
First five will still make the team but there will be prizes there at the end for the anglers who fish all year.
I think if you fished these on a sat evening through the year you would definitly get increased numbers.(it would keep me out of the pub too which is always a good thing

)

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH JP ON HIS IDEA OF FISHING ON A LEAGUE BASIS WITH THE COMPS SPREAD OUT OVER THE YEAR THE PAST YEAR HAS SEEN POOR FISHING IN THE MUNSTERS WITH 1ST COMP YOUGHAL BEACH IN JANURARY IN POOR CONDITIONS TO SAY THE LEAST WITH THE REMAINDER OF THE 3 COMPS IN A 4 WEEK SPREAD BETWEEN END OF OCT AND END NOVENBER WITH THE MUNSTER OPEN IN THESE WEEKS ALSO TOO MANY COMPS IN THAT TIME SPAN WITH SAME OLD VENUES LETS TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT

just wonder in why there is no leg in kerry' as it too is in munster and to make it fair to all the lads that travel down to all the other legs just makes it fair for all fishing

If a club in Kerry wants t stage a leg they would need to submit themselves for one when the munster council puts out the call, the lads in Tralee bay hold one of the legs of the youths and the anglers travel down and have a good time fishing a new venue, i agree that it would be fair on the anglers fishing the Munster Closed who come from the Kingdom also in my opinon the entry fee for the Four legs should be paid up front because the club that holds the last leg has to try and get prizes on a limited buget ie 75% of entry fees have to be paid out on prizes.

well lads as dogfish said any club can apply of a leg,and thankfully next year the 4 dates are spreed out nice over the year.
as for last year first leg on the 3rd jan was a big c**k up it shouldnt start till at least feb and then after have one leg every 3 months kinda thing.
there was a leg in kerr last year witch was a big disaster but no resion not to hold one up around the inch side or even in shannon area?

I agree with dogfish on this one entry should be paid up front or as JP said have prizes for first 10-15 anglers overall depending on overall entries just to try and get maximum numbers fishing, with regard to last comp in Kerry I have to say a small number had weed from start and rest got it about an hour in to comp but it must be one of the most productive hours fishing I have had in a comp, if no weed ye would of needed 20 plus fish to get into prizes barry we cant control weather and 3 days of storms on the atlantic coast cant be helped they didnt have a waterford harbour or youghal harbour to fall back on so I for one would like to see another comp down there.

i agree with alot of whats being said here lads but a few things are becoming very apparent to me here, mainly that alot of anglers are not too happy with the way the munsters as a whole is being run and also alot of anglers have very good progressive ideas on how to improve things.
as fishycycle says the most important thing for all concerned, the anglers the clubs the organisers and the competition itself, is to have as many anglers as possible turn out for all the competitions. i think back to a few years back when anything less than 80 anglers at a munster competition was regarded as a poor turn out.
i think its high time the munster anglers got together and had a lengthy constructive discussion/debate to once and for all to air grieviances put the past to bed and formulate the best and fairest system to progress with munster competitions into the future. proposals could be put forward voted upon and presented to the munster council who im sure would be delighted to have better interaction and involvment from anglers
any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated as if the interest was there i would be willing to organise something to get all the munster anglers together. if we dont start doing something about the situation now we will all be here this time next year moaning about the same stuff, and the year after and the year aft.................

In my opinion this is what could be done:
1. One entry up Front so that all the clubs that are holding the legs will have the same prize fund pool.
2. the clubs who are holding the leg will have a back up venue in the event of bad weather
Decided on before comp and not on the day to decide where to go and clearly outlined on forms.
3.The clubs holding the comps have a meeting to set out the rules and formulate of the score card so that there is a uniformity across the board.
4. That here is NO other comps held on the weekend of comp in order if nessariy to change day.
anyway these are my thoughts on this.
