Do we have to be so hard on fish when unhookin them? whats the point of catch an release when the bloods pishin out of flats when ure measuring them??????? fish lots of opens and club matchesand theres plenty guilty of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have to say this is the first major open ive fished on the east coast and was surprised to say the least - its not like there was triple shots each cast with lads running up and down the beach

it wasnt a speed competition yet most anglers didnt seem to bother disgorging the fish - just rip the hook out and return (whats the point!) - i was last off the beach in ballinmona and it was littered with dead flounder

we hand out the disgorgers at our club comps and show new anglers the simple way of unhooking flatties through the gills, an extra 10 seconds is all it takes

if your going to release it do it properly

aside from that well run comp, enjoyed the venue, well done the winner on a very impressive haul - wish i had the camera when the connacht team realised they werent called out 4th!!!
priceless 8)

thanks jp and jo for the lifts

well done to Dave and young Jordan and the Ulster team on their wins. south shore sac take a bow in putting on a great competition. we have a high standard to match for next years Jimmy Smith in Connaught. But i have to agree with Corbyeire about the unhooking of flats, what i seen along the high tide line as i walked back to the car after was nothing short of barbaric! Lads this has to stop, there are many FAST AND SIMPLE ways of unhooking flats when shown how to. I make up and hand out disgorsers, and show people how to use them over here in the west on the condition they in turn show others the same technique. It's just as well the competition finished after dark and no members of the public walking the beach seen the fish every where.
