INTERPROVINCIAL YOUGHAL JAN 19/20

Wed Nov 21, 2007 10:55 am

The venues for this event have not been fully decided yet.

What we do know is the Garryvoe Beaches is planned be used as the night venue.
Youghal Estuary and Youghal Beach are the other two venues
Weather conditions will play a big part in all this.

Last Saturday the Munster Open was fished on the Garryvoe Beaches in shocking conditions, on Sunday we fished the last leg of the U16/U21 and we were lucky to find a bit of beach that was not covered in weed.

Two open competition are planned for Youghal beach, Dec 30and Jan 13,
this will give us a better idea of the venue

If you look up "shore angling reports" Stella Maris fished Youghal last week.

When the dates are fixed I'll post them here

I know the answer to this question! Why are crab banned when it's the top bait on these venues.it's like going shark fishing with ragworm

Lug will be the most important bait at this time of year anyway.
The crab will probably be non existent in youghal in january.
If the estuary is fished then mussel will work, but dont expect too much success with it on the beach.

Lug is the new crab

Seriously....bans should be banned, it doesnt make a level field and it takes away from the skill of the individual at county level.....there is a whole different reason why its done in the Cips world championships. This is not only my opinion its the opinion of most top international anglers to.

If people are under the impression that we are keeping the venues a secret forget it. The main reason for not nailing them this early is things could change before the event.

Cork sea anglers fished the front beach in Youghal last Sunday (4-8pm) and it fished it's socks off with the winner having 12 fish Cork sizes.

Fishing these East Cork venues without crab in January is not going to be a problem.

I was there in June and I suffered as much as any angler did. Restrictions and regulations layed down in advance made it hard.

We want to see anglers going away from Youghal knowing they caught fish and plenty of them.

So selection venues will be our biggest task.
  Even Ballybrannigan is producing good returns of fish   in the 20cm size at the moment flounder, turbot and coalies.

We intend to fish all the venues in advance to make sure that when we select them they will produce fish.

Crab is not a required bait for Youghal in January as the flounder are gone out to spawn.

Sat Nov 24, 2007 9:07 pm

why ban it then?

Tom.

Sat Nov 24, 2007 9:30 pm

["Tom are you expecting the flounders to leave early this year because there is a crab ban, somebody better better tell the flounders then."] [/quote]

Every year in Youghal the flounder go out to spawn from mid to late November and dont really return until late February/March.

But i could be wrong.....i mean i only live in Youghal, and fish Youghal and the surrounding area all year round. Maybe they do leave because crab gets banned from the inter provincial youths, flounders are picky fish.

From December until around mid march the crab go scarce around Youghal, thats why lug is a better bait around this time on Youghal Beach.

Don't be so happy :D about it Tom we will be pulling you out to check out some of these venues :? :o
