Cork competitions

Hi guys

Can anyone recommend any charter boat comps out of the Cork area in August / September this year?

Hoping to come over for a look before the European Championships in 2008.

I take it you are coming from overseas.

I would imagine it could be difficult for you to fish local club comps as you would not be a member. Difficult but not impossible, there are always way around these things!

The Cobh International takes place early each September. This is a charter event. Check the following sites. There’s not a huge amount of info but you could contact the Geary’s as they are very much involved with the event.

You will find details elsewhere on this site of charters operating out of Cork harbour. Most if not all of these boats would be involved in the championships.

If you can organise a small boat then Cork Small Boats Festival takes place in late September.

As Jim said the Cobh International is the one you are looking for.

It is fished over 4 days on the first week of September each year, this year the event will be fished on Mon 3 to Friday 7 of September. Wednesday is a day of rest. There is a dinner dance with presentation of prizes on the Friday night.

It can be fished as an individual or a team (teams of 4) all fish are weighed on the boat so there are points by weight as well as per fish. It is fished on a C&R basis. It has entrants from several countries many coming here each year for decades and it is great fun!!
