Warrior 165

Really really want one of these boats but is it true that they are prone to take on water through some hatch on them and whats your views on going to england to buy one has anybody here purchased a boat across the water?

The Warrior 165 is a very good boat by all accounts. I seriously considered one but eventually bought a Raider 16. See some recent reviews at: http://www.boat-angling-ireland.com/

Hi there, I'd agree, they seem decent boats. I fish on a friends 165 a lot and never been a problem. They are stable enough, wouldn't want to be out in anything too lumpy, but seem to handle a bit of weather ok.
I see you were also asking about longliners in a previous post. I have one and would agree that they are great little boats, the only downside being the speed with the displacement hull. Fishing down here in Cork Harbour and launching from Ringaskiddy is 5 miles out to end of harbour which takes me 20minutes or so, 5 in the warrior. I have considered selling up the longliner for a warrior just for that extra speed. When both have been out in lumpy seas, the speed difference wasn't apparent and less bumpy in the orkney. Hi scotsman thats the only reason why id go for the warrior and sell the longliner just for that bit of extra speed definately would be nice means more fishing time and less steaming but as u say once the weather turns the warrior has to slacken off a bit. Its hard to know what to do i think the warrior would open a lot more doors in boat fishing for me eg. getting to further away marks, having more faith in a bigger engine and hopefully catch more fish :lol: The only thing about the longliner she's bought and paid for, and a kitted out warrior's gona cost about 10 grand!!

I travelled over to England to buy my current boat about a year ago. It was really straight forward. Just be clear in your mind about what your buying, glean as much information from the vendor as possible, along with plenty of pictures. If possible arrange other boat viewings, in case, the boat you have travelled over to see does not match your expectations. Plan your routes and overnight accomodation, if required, before leaving.
I have a 165 and am very pleased with her, as are all who fish from her. They are prone to letting in some water into the underfloor space. I resealed the hatch at the base of my anchor locker and resealed around where the under floor drain bung is fitted and reduced the intake of water to a trickle.
