Sturgeon have been taken in Irish waters, I'm fairly sure..

Paxman's book "Fish, Fishing and the Meaning of Life " (One of the books I keep on the beside locker- the stories/extracts range in size) has a piece about a man catching a huge sturgeon in the River Towy , Wales.

I think sturgeon are like salmon in that they are caught in salt and fresh water.
