Algal bloom

Thu May 28, 2015 8:24 pm

I heard from a friend that the EPA had warned of an algal bloom on the east coast so I tweeted to them today. They replied:
There is an algal bloom of Phaeocystis - not harmful. Progress can be viewed on Marine Institute website http://www.marine.ie/Home/site-area/data-services/interactive-maps/weekly-hab-bulletin

I presume this means that although it's harmless (apart from folk freaking at goop on the beaches) the fish will head offshore into deeper, better oxygenated water.

lucky fish! not so lucky for any farmers cultivating shell fish on our shores as it has the potential to wipe out stocks incurring massive losses to the producers
