i was out off the clare coast today, caught a pollack with some kind of parasite on his eye,
this is a common enough occurance,

then he pukes up a really weird yoke, experienced people havent seen
this before, a silver eye and translucent body

anybody know the species?

thanks paddy, glass eel, When approaching the European coast, the larvae metamorphose into a transparent larval stage called "glass eel", enter estuaries, and start migrating upstream., presumably an unsuccessful attempt to hide from the pollack and other enemies,

now i just have to figure out whats on the pollacks eye

Not sure about the glass eel lads. Id say it's more like a lampray eel larva. Looks like it's sucked its self to the eye ball . That's my gess .

dan, there are two photos above, the second one i think is
a glass eel, i have read reports of recovery of the
fresh water eel stocks, so maybe this is a sign of that

the first photo looks like some kind of parasite, they are
common just dont know the species, it doesnt seem
to have eyes or gills of stuff like that, so maybe not a lamprey?
