It's unlikely a Tope will bite through 60lbs wire, but I find the light stuff like that kinks badly after a fish or 2. Try and get yourself a spool of 100lbs+ wire as this is stiffer, and a packet of hooks and make up 3 or 4 rigs before you get on the boat. It'll only take a few minutes to knock a few traces together, but it will be worth the effort.

I make up a load of Tope traces before each season starts, and I'm only over in Sallynoggin. I'll give you a couple of mine if you want. I'm not a fan of shop bought traces at all.

Try 200lb mono, doesn`t kink like wire and 8/0 Sakuma Mantas, dead easy to make.

I'm with you Ste c, I use 150lbs Jinkai big game leader mono crimped to American styles cross link swivel, and about 18in of 100lbs wire, my hook of choice is 7/0 Varivas Big Mouth Extra. Cox & Rawle uptides are great, just a bit expensive.

I don't think its to do with how big they are but how sharp there teeth are. now iv never caught a tope but that's my take on it.
