Access to a boat

Hi all, a good mate of mine is linked to the company "Redfinn boats"

He has this exact boat, yes the exact one in the video and it hasnt been used apart from shows demo days etc in England.
Anyway its in Dublin now and I can use it

I am a keen beach angler and would have a very, very experienced sailor / power boat instructor (but not fisherman) with me.

Questions are,

Where do I head to for decent fishing on a trip out of dunlaoire?

What class of rod reel would be a good all round bit of kit for it? (the rods in the video dont belong to the boat just props)

How far offshore in good weather should this boat be capable. it has radio/radar/gps/fishfinder/lights etc and a aux engine.

edit, I think its main engine is a 60hp Yamaha. 8hp yamaha aux engine.

We would all like to know the answer to that question.
Seriously though don't set your expectations too high, fishing has been very slow this year so far.
Few pollock starting to show now and John1 seems to be picking up a few other species like gurnard, wrasse etc so signs are it's picking up a bit.
Don't know when you intend going out but PM a contact number and I can give you a few pointers not that I am any expert but have been fishing the area for quite a while.

Go for a 6-12 or 12-20 boat rod or maybe a light uptider. Reels like Penn 525 - Slosh 20/30 etc.
If there are pollack around you could use a a light lure rod.

Distance offshore is more to do with the forecast conditions, the actual conditions, the ability/willingness of the skipper and crew and the ability of the boat. People run to offshore wrecks +40 miles in Warrior 175's - granted these people are experienced and just a little nutty

Start slowly and get investigating the ground around you. As you gain experience and tire of local marks you'll find yourself experimenting.

fishing on the east coast is very quiet compared to say the south west, its a completely different ecosystem.
about nine miles off the east coast there's a long sandbank ( kish bank, bennet bank ) and if you
anchor close to this there is good tope fishing and also some fine thornback ray.
one advantage of a trailerable boat is you could launch from a more productive area

Its more a question of understanding the tide and its interaction with the wind, conditions can change
very quickly and become dangerous if you dont know what you are doing

I had a look around the boat today, turns out its a 70hp yamaha on it.
