Kilmore Quay Charter

Mon Feb 04, 2013 11:46 pm

Can you fellas point me in the right direction - predominantly being a shore angler I want to do a bit of boat fishing this year, mainly lures on a spinning rod set up for cod, wrasse, pollock etc.

When does kilmore Quay start to heat up for this kind of fishing, and what lures are the best for this method?

Hey Alby,

The pollock can be on most of the reefs nearly all year round. For the best of the action, especially if you want to see some Wrasse you would be looking at May / June till October / November for the best of this style of fishing.

Alby,
You have the timing for Kilmore....grand!

After that it is less about the lure and more about being set up right, if you know what I mean.

Are you up for the show in Swords?

Sorry Jim, I should have mentioned that .... Alby, nab a few minutes with Jim at the show and he'll make sure you are set up right.... I find the charters don't normally cater for this style of fishing, but you should be able to do in at Kilmore anyway... Might be better if you can get 4 - 6 like minded guys, split the charter and go all out on te soft plastics. You would see better results and with a few lads at it, you would get a better idea of what works best.

I heard a good drop of olive oil helps lubricate the oesophegas!

Jim / Eddie

Tell me this, the boat is only 38ft long, how many beach buddies will that accomodate? :D

That's the groundbaiting bit sorted then   - ah no worries, don't overdo it the night before on the old gargle and and have a light brekkie before you go out (poached eggs on toast etc) and you should be ok. You'll grow your sealegs after a few trips anyway - keep it up and tight lines! 8)

I'd say skipper will be cranky if you stake the boat!
