Would this method catch?

Okay so,
A 20lb Ron thompson evo concept Boat rod fitted with a Vigor Fixed spool boat reel (Can't remember the actual name for it though)loaded with 35lb Red ice. Then a Tronix Pro Black Muppets rig with 7/0 Hook, Baited with Mackerel strips.
Now, at the bottom of the rig a 350g Norweigan hand made Cod and ling Pirk, I got it whilst over in scotland.

Now, should i use this from a boat? I think if it worked it could land pollock, cod and maybe ling?

Replies would be grand
Thomas.

Oh yeah, forgot.
It would be used over a wreck of one of the many spanish armada ships scattered around killala. :D 8) :D 8) :D 8)

You're describing a Killer Rig, or variation thereoff.

The only problem with it is when you've pulled up your 9th or 10th full house of coalies from deepwater. It gets to be a bit tiring, and you switch to a more selective single hook rig.

Ahh, ok thanks.
Would the coalies be good sized though?

Depends on what size they are down there. If there's a cloud of small coalies over the wreck then you'll be plagued with them.

is this your reel?

http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Vigor-Sea-Fishin ... 1017745084

i have tried reels of similar price pier fishing with my children and they have burst on a 10oz fish

im assuming you won't even be able to wind the pirk back up with a 9.99 reel

Of course it will work!
It might not last too long of you drag a big treble at the end of the pirk over a wreck!
On a decent wreck less hooks can be better than more.

Good point! I've removed all my treble's from the bottom of my pirks and added an assist hook to the top of my pirk.
There were some studies that showed fish (cod I think) att the the head of the fish and they do this by sucking in a large amount of water. An assist hook at the top allows it to be easily sucked in whilst keeping the bottom of the pirk free to bounce along the wreck.
