Boats, license etc

Tue Dec 06, 2011 3:25 pm

Its really weird my fist thread was deleted.

My question was:

Can you direct me to the rules and laws, whats needed to get a small boat on the water.
Want to get a small a bit out from the shore with up to 17ft boat.

I really dont understand whats the problem here with that question.

Also tried several keywords in search engine here but without luck ...

No rules, no laws. Just your own common sense, training and experience

Good luck.

Thanks so far :)

I know that in N Europe you have to have a license to sail on a boat which is longer than x meters and you cant sail further than x miles from the shore. Thats my main concern here.

Cheers

a friend of mine in the coastguard said the lifeboat had to come to the rescue of 3 lads around youghal last week with engine fail ,none of the 3 wearing lifejackets all 3 were fined for it and rightly so.so make sure you have all your safety gear

Firstly, no rules or laws except the need to wear a lifejacket.
Would be a good idea to have boat insurance and this will show you restrictions on how far out etc.
On the question of which small boat maybe if you look in your nearest harbour/marina at 17' boats? and watch out for comps in your area and go down when they are launching or retrieving their boats and have a chat. :D :D
I have a Seahog Commodore and very happy with it. Friends have Warriors, Raiders, orkney's, shetlands etc

Hope this helps
