Lost crab pot

Hi all,

I lost a crab pot yesterday between aghada and east ferry.

It was one of these

Dunno where it will turn up but if you see it, you can keep the massive crabs and lobsters inside, just return the pot

I use those pots for collecting small hardbacks.... There not really strong enough for anything else and they do get moved around a bit in the current as they are not weighted. I now clip on a couple of pounds of lead onto mine or place some large round rock on the inside if I can. Even then I would only use these close in. Hopefully your one turn up.

i just had one that arrived today.

looking to collect hard back for the wrasse.

any tips for using it ?

Had about 25 hardbacks in each one yesterday and one good size edible crab.
Day before I had 3 edible crabs in one and about 15 hardbacks. The odd fish aswell.

I would use an anchor and ty it off from the metal to keep it in position a rock inside could damage the net.

From the boat deep kelpy or rocky area. From the shore in sheltered water I just weight them down and ty them off on some seaweed at low tide. I find a rockpool is best as it doesnt dry out.... but a gulley is better as a supply of food.

I have also caught prawns in them but I figure the crabs would eat them…so I have been toying around with the idea of attacing a float to the top to stop crabs entering and keeping it a few feet off the ground so the prawns could go in…

Mack or left over bait will be fine. Great for hardbacks for Wrasse.

I tried mine on saturday.

was down in kilmore quay with the kids but managed to get the feathers out for half a hour so thought it was a perfect chance to try my crab net.

id say about 50ish crabs in 30 mins

them kinda pots you only hand off the end of harbours/walls etc...u dont leave them out at sea,,,they certainly will get you hardbacks but if i need them i put bait down in an onion bag and lift after 3-5 mins and they are all clinging to it,,,just done and dusted ,,hope you get ur pot back

when using these i always found leaving the bait in the pot had a tendency to get destroyed quite quickly by the crabs so i picked up a denture box from the pound shop for......£1

drilled holes all over it and hang it from the inside top of the pot, does a great job in keeping the bait intact and helps it last longer

Doubt I'll see it back, but the day before I left it in 8m for 24hours and got 3 nice Brown crabs so I figure it earned it price of €6
