Lads going to give trolling for bass a go tomorrow around calso bay ect...
Looking for advice on speed and should I use the braid straight to the plug..

bout 2-3mph is good.... and thats through the water column not over land... i.e. in a 2-3 current you would be stationary... however this is not quite advisable....

Zig zagging to cover ground is a better idea. not sure bout the braid... I still use mono for everything and cheap rods and gear

Only spotted this one now. How did you get on?
Trolling can be a bit boring. I did quite a lot of it but soon tired of it. To me it's more craic to motor along and stop and cast a lure. If there's nothing doing move on. I used like to troll at 2-2.5 knts depending on conditions etc. As for the braid, I would have no issues tackling straight to the plug even though my lure rods would be rigged with a short leader in any case.

Thanks Lads for the info.
Ended up just using the aux to motor close to the rocks only doing a 2mph and kept casting with lures no sign of bass but got a few pollock around 2-3lb which was good crack on light gear..
I'll keep plugging at till I get one..

Rather than going straight to Caliso start after Monatrae House. I've taken bass along the rocks there.
