Small craft warning

Lads, what would you make of this. Here it goes, I live on the East coast and am also a member of a angling club :D . The policy of the club is that if there is a small craft warning on our coast the competition due to be held on that day is automatically cancelled :( , this is common sense, and I'm sure most angling clubs around the country have a similar policy in place. If on the other hand, Met Eireann give a small craft warning on my coast for Westerly wind all day up to Force 6, which of course will be blowing off the land which in turn will give me plenty of shelter, and I decide to head out to sea, am I covered on my boat insurance :?: :?: :?: if (god forbid) anything was to happen. Met Eireann state on there site (Small Craft Warnings are issued if winds of Beaufort Force 6 (min. mean of 22 knots) are expected up to 10 Nautical miles offshore). I very rarely venture much further than 10 miles offshore and thats normally only when its fairly calm, and the other thing is that most boats 16 - 21 footers are category C if I am right which are capable of handling force 6 weather. Curious to see what you lads think, don't get me wrong
I am not a risk taker, It's just that I have seen competitions cancelled on several occasions for small craft warnings, which should not have been cancelled and I know Met Eireann can't be right all the time. Hope I haven't confused any body with this post, look forward to your responses on this one, thanks..

Don't care what it says for Category C there is no way I would be out in a 16 footer in a force 6.
Know how you feel about forecasts either getting it wrong or being misinterpreted but clubs have to have some rule to go by which takes into account the safety of it's members. If your comp is cancelled and you feel it's ok go fishing man and enjoy :D but dont forget put safety first, listen to your radio for forecasts in case things change and they can very quickly.

i have to say i never tempt faith. if there is a smallcraft warning from met eirrean i then check howth weather station, which gives local weather conditions. its only then i decide to go out.depending on the wind direction i can find sheltered spots at howth to fish but does not involve going out 10 miles as conditions change very quickly.you need to gather a collective forecast and use it to suit your area .and listen to all forecast updates on the marine radio.we had a small incident last season when the weather turned nasty in a matter of minutes and had a swell come up rapidly [wind against tide]we were very comfortable with the tide comming in but on the ebb it got very snotty and had the boat bouncing around .with 115hp on the boat you think you have it covered, but against a big swell it means slowing the boat down and takes twice the amount of time to get back in.so you need to watch all the time. the small craft warning is only the first step in a long line of directions to take

I think the OP can decide whether to go out or not... the fish will still be there tomorrow...
Specifically, You would need to contact your insurance company to find out, but if I was to insure you and all the experts said stay off the water and you went on.... I'm not sure I would pay out...
